Treasures from the Archives

Fourteen original songs of praise and worship, recorded by James Ryle and Phil Keaggy.

The Story

CD Cover ArtA small gathering of close friends (Phil Keaggy, Gene Miller, Michael Houlihan and Glen Heard) came to my house one summer day to sing over me in the Lord when I was going through a particular difficult stretch of bad health. Well, Phil and Gene sang; Glen just kinda grunted every now and then…in the key of F. Michael watched in silence….texting somebody about something.

We all worshiped the Lord and sensed His presence during that special visit. At one point Phil stopped playing, and there was a pause. I said, “I got a song you might like.” Phil handed me his guitar and said, “Let’s hear it.”

James and PhilSo I gave it my best shot, trying not to feel intimidated in the presence of real musicians. When I finished, there was another pause. Then Phil said, “That was truly beautiful; we need to record that!”

“Well, I don’t know if I would go that far,” I replied. And so I dismissed the remark. That is until about a week later. I sensed the Lord speak to me, “You need to take Phil’s offer to record your song; I will put My blessing on this.”

I called Phil and asked, “Were you serious about recording the song?”

“Absolutely!” he said. “Come over, and bring any more songs that you have.”

As it happened, I did have more songs; several in fact. Most of them I had written during the latter days of the Jesus Movement, and some after that. I had them in an old folder in my desk, simply marked with the word “Treasures.” Some of the songs had been written on a typewriter; that’s how far back they went.

I pulled the folder out and took it to Phil’s studio. We played through a few to start with, and then Phil pushed record. What happened next was truly amazing.

The grace of God settled upon us and we recorded four songs the first day. A few days later we recorded more. The project continued to move forward will surprising ease, and at length we had recorded fourteen songs.

I was blessed to sit with Phil and watch him work his wonders with a variety of guitars and other instruments; and equally touched by how many astounding musicians joined in on the project, asking nothing in return. They wanted to bless the Lord by sharing their gifts with me….and with you.

When it was all said and done I thought there could be no better title for the project that “Treasures from the Archives.”

Album Cover LinkI know you will feel the Lord’s Presence as you listen and worship with us. Some songs are upbeat and filled with joy; a few are prophetically intrusive, perhaps causing you to open your heart more to the Lord than ever. And some songs are heartfelt and tender, leading you along with us into a place where we behold the beauty of the Lord.

Here’s a piece of trivia for you — In these fourteen songs, the name Jesus occurs 67 times, and the title Lord happens 41 times. In a sentence, this album is all about the Lord Jesus!

Oh, the song I played at my house that day? The one that set this project in motion? It’s the closing song on the CD — “One Thing”

I know you are going to be blessed as you listen to this offering of praise and worship we have laid before the Lord on behalf of His Church — to beautify His Bride with grace and glory…and bring Him great honor with the display of our gifts.

The Song Lyrics

“Somebody Told Me”

Written by James Ryle and Milton Carroll

Somebody told me that a Man named Jesus lived,
and He walked on water; healed the sick and He raise the dead.
Some folks killed Him; said they didn’t like His ways.
But He fooled them all, and the devil, when He rose in just three days!

Well, I sure could use a Friend like that!
Someone who can meet me right where I’m at,
and take me safely to the Other Side;
and put the glory back in my stride!
Somebody told me.

Somebody told me that He broke the power of sin,
and rose into Heaven; and He’s coming back again!
I heard it from the Preacher, he said the signs are everywhere;
it won’t be long till the trumpet sound and we meet Him in the air!

Well, I sure could use a Friend like that!
Someone who can meet me right where I’m at,
and take me safely to the Other Side;
and put the glory back in my stride!
Somebody told me.

Jesus! Jesus! Jesus! I’m calling out to You!
I’m trusting in Your promise Lord, that You’ll do what You said you do.
Fill me with Your Spirit; take all my sins away!
When You speak I’ll listen Lord, and do anything that You say!

I gotta tell somebody, everything I heard was true!
Gimme just a minute, and I’ll explain it all to you.
See, I was sinking like a ship in the middle of the sea.
I once was lost, but now am found; was blind, but now I see!

Well, you sure could use a Friend like that!
Someone who can meet you right where you’re at,
and take you safely to the Other Side;
and put the glory back in your stride!

I gotta tell somebody!
Oh, yeah, yeah I got tell somebody!
Oh, help me Jesus tell somebody!
Gotta tell somebody; gotta tell somebody!

“Is There Anybody Here?”

Written by James Ryle

Is there anybody here in Love with Jesus?
I mean, really deep in love with the Lord?
Then join me in this song of adoration,
and let’s bless Him with our hearts in one accord!

Sing, Jesus I love You! Jesus I love You!
And I give You all my heart for all my days!
Oh, Jesus I love You! Jesus I love You!
And I’ll prove it by my actions and my ways.

Is there anybody here filled with the Spirit?
Do you praise the name of Jesus everyday?
Are you glad to know how much the Father loves You?
Then let Him hear you lift your voice on high and say,

Oh, Jesus I love You! Jesus I love You!
And I give You all my heart for all my days!
Oh, Jesus I love You! Jesus I love You!
And I’ll prove it by my actions and my ways.

Is there anybody here that’s going to heaven?
To meet the Lord of Glory in the air?
Well, then don’t hold back; just go ahead and shout it —
just the way you know you will when you get there!

Oh, Jesus I love You! Jesus I love You!
And I give You all my heart for all my days!
Oh, Jesus I love You! Jesus I love You!
And I’ll prove it by my actions and my ways.

Oh, Jesus I love You! Jesus I love You!
And I give You all my heart for all my days!
Oh, Jesus I love You! Jesus I love You!
And I’ll prove it by my actions and my ways.

And I’ll prove it by my actions and my ways.

“Blessed is the Man”

Written by James Ryle

Blessed is the Man who delights in the Word of the Lord
Blessed is the Man who delights in the Word of the Lord

He meditates day and night;
He learns to do what is what is right;
He loves the Lord with all of his might.
Blessed is the man!

Blessed is the Man who delights in the Word of the Lord
Blessed is the Man who delights in the Word of the Lord

He walks not with the ungodly.
He stands not with the scoffer.
He sits not with the mocker.
Blessed is the man!

Open my eyes oh Lord, that that I may behold
The treasures of Your Word, better than gold!

Sweeter than the taste of honey
Better than my daily bread
A refuge in the time of trouble…
Blessed is the man!

He shall be like a tree
Planted by the Living Waters;
His leaves will always be green
And everything he does will prosper!
Blessed is the man!

Blessed is the man….
Blessed is the man….
Blessed is the man….

“Day Dreamer”

Written by James Ryle

Early in the morning you can see when the sun shines brightly.
The night is far spent and the day is now at hand.
The Word of God is given unto you – divide it rightly.
You gave your life to Jesus, now its time for you to take a stand.

Too many of the Father’s children are living in a daze,
Speaking of His acts, knowing very little of His ways.
Open your eyes under clear skies — reach for the prize –
HEY! HEY! Day dreamer; Day dreamer; wake I say.
Don’t dream your light away.

You are of the day. You must watch and pray!
Open your eyes under clear skies – reach for the prize—
HEY! HEY! Day dreamer; Day dreamer; wake I say.
Don’t dream your light away.

Children of the Light walk worthy of your calling.
Put aside the deeds of darkness right away.
Lend a helping hand to the ones around you falling.
Show them by your life that Jesus is the Way.

Open your eyes under clear skies – reach for the prize—
HEY! HEY! Day dreamer; Day dreamer; wake I say.
Don’t dream your light away.

“I Must Tell Jesus”

Written by Elisha A. Hoffman, 1839-1929 (public domain)

I must tell Jesus all of my trials.
I cannot bear these burdens alone.
In my distress He kindly will hear e;
He ever loves and cares for His own.

I must tell Jesus! I must tell Jesus!
I cannot bear my burdens alone.
I must tell Jesus!
I must tell Jesus!
Jesus can help me; Jesus alone.

I must tell Jesus all of my troubles.
He is a kind and compassionate friend.
If I but ask Him, He will deliver;
Make of my troubles quickly an end!

I must tell Jesus! I must tell Jesus!
I cannot bear my burdens alone.
I must tell Jesus!
I must tell Jesus!
Jesus can help me; Jesus alone.

I must tell Jesus! I must tell Jesus!
I cannot bear my burdens alone.
I must tell Jesus!
I must tell Jesus!
Jesus can help me; Jesus alone.

Yes, Jesus can help me; Jesus alone.
Jesus alone.

“Kingdom Party”

Written by James Ryle

We are having a kingdom party
In the presence of the king!
A celebration in the throne room,
Jesus lifts his voice to sing

A proclamation to the kingdom!
The sounds of joy now fill the land!
Signs and wonders are occurring
As Jesus stretches forth his hand!

The brokenhearted now are whole;
The deaf can hear, the blind can see!
The stain of sin is finally gone!
It is the year of jubilee!

All the captives are set free!
All the lost are coming home!
It is the year of jubilee!
We sing and dance before the throne!

We sing and dance before the Throne!
We sing and dance before the Throne!
We sing and dance before the Throne!

A proclamation to the kingdom!
The sounds of joy now fill the land!
Signs and wonders are occurring
As Jesus stretches forth his hand!

We are having a kingdom party
In the presence of the king!
A celebration in the throne room,
Jesus lifts his voice to sing!

We are having a kingdom party!
We are having a kingdom party!
We are having a kingdom party!
We are having a kingdom party!

We sing and dance before the Throne!
We sing and dance before the Throne!
We sing and dance before the Throne!
We sing and dance before the Throne!

“Streets of Gold”

Written by James Ryle

Once I wandered Lost and wondering
On life’s desperate road.
I heard a call, and gave my all.
And I found My streets of gold.

If you see me walking freely
with no heavy load.
Don’t think twice; I’m alright.
I have found my streets of gold.

I have found the golden highway
Leading up to Heaven’s door.
I won’t wander off on my way.
For I’m following the Lord!

Say, won’t you come and walk with me?
You just never know…
On this day You might say,
I have found My streets of gold.

I have found the golden highway
Leading up to Heaven’s door.
I won’t wander off on my way.
For I’m following the Lord!

I have found The fount of blessing;
Touched the heart of God.
Its my song all day long
I have found My streets of gold.

I have found the golden highway
Leading up to Heaven’s door.
I won’t wander off on my way.
For I’m following the Lord!

Say, won’t you come and walk with me?
You just never know…
On this day You might say
I have found My streets of gold.
I have found My streets of gold.
I have found My streets of gold.

“Where is Jesus?”

Written by James Ryle and Phil Keaggy

Sometimes I just got to wonder, “Where is Jesus?”
Different people say that He’s with them.
But, somehow down inside I don’t believe it.
Why, I doubt we’ve even touched the Master’s hem.

Yeah, something down inside me says He’s missing;
and He’s not too well pleased with our ways.
Oh, something down inside me cries
That this generation’s eyes
Haven’t seen the sun nor moon in many days.

Drifting like a broken ship upon the restless sea;
blinded to the peril of the night.
A longing rises upward, Lord, from deep inside of me
that at last our eyes will come to see the light.

I wonder just how long we will continue
playing at the games we know so well.
Making merchandise of the Savior,
and putting Gospel goods up for sale.

I wonder just how long we can continue
running around in this zealous craze.
I wonder if we’ll ever realize that our eyes
Haven’t seen the son nor moon in many days!

Drifting like a broken ship upon the restless sea;
blinded to the peril of the night.
But a longing rises upward, Lord, from deep inside of me
that at last our eyes will come to see the light.

Lord Jesus, Stand beside us in the middle of this storm;
Let Your Spirit guide us in all Your ways.
Lord, Give us one more chance to make it safely to the shore.
From there we’ll spread the news of Your amazing grace!

Drifting like a broken ship upon the restless sea;
blinded to the peril of the night.
A longing rises upward, Lord, from deep inside of me
that at last our eyes will come to see the light.

Let me ask you one more time before you leave us.
Have you ever wondered, “Where is Jesus?”

“Revive Me Again”

Written by James Ryle and Milton Carroll

Like the snow on the mountain
and the wind in the trees,
Is this life-giving Fountain
I find on my knees.

Holy Spirit I need You
like a rive need rain.
Pour over my being,
revive me again.

Lie the fire on the altar,
and the glow of its light.
Is this prayer that I offer,
my song in the night.

Holy Spirit I need You,
Like a candle needs flame.
Rekindle my passion,
Revive me again!

Revive me again! I humbly seek Your face.
Revive me again! Fill me with Your grace.
My soul thirsts for You in a dry and weary land.
Come and make me new; Revive me again!

Like the birds start their singing
when spring time has come;
and the flowers are bringing
their fragrance, undone.

Holy Spirit, I need You
like April needs May.
Fulfill all my longing.
Revive me I pray!

Revive me again! I humbly seek Your face.
Revive me again! Fill me with Your grace.
My soul thirsts for You in a dry and weary land.
Come and make me new; Revive me again!

Revive me again! I humbly seek Your face.
Revive me again! Fill me with Your grace.
My soul thirsts for You in a dry and weary land.
Come and make me new; Revive me again!

Come and make me new; Revive me again!

“NAZARETH”

Written by James Ryle

N is for the nothing you will find there.
A is for the anguish you will see.
Z stands to say that it is last there.
A is for the awful misery.
R is really wanting so to leave there
E is evil coming for to dwell.
T is trouble standing on the corner.
H of course has got to stand for hell.

Put them all together they spell Nazareth,
Lowly town of ancient Galilee.
Can anything good come from such a place as this?
The answer is surprising, as you’ll see –

For out of ashes beauty has arisen!
Out of darkness Light has come to be!
Jesus Christ of Nazareth – the Answer!
Jesus Christ of Nazareth is He!

N is for the new life found in Jesus.
A is for the all He is to me.
Z stands for Zion’s wall s around me.
A says I am absolutely free..
R is for redemption’s blessed story.
E says that He is mine eternally.
T is for the Thankfulness I give Him.
H is for the heaven where I’ll be.

Can anything good come from Nazareth?
Can anything good come from me?
JESUS…..

“Lord, Hold Me in Your Arms”

Written by James Ryle

Lord, hold me in Your arms.
Fill me with Your Spirit.
Take away the things that take my heart away
From loving You.

Just hold me in Your arms.
Fill me with Your Spirit.
Let me feel Your love,
Let me hear Your voice
As I worship You.

Jesus I believe
that You are Lord of all.
Your gift of love is free
To everyone who calls.

The guilty You forgive
The broken You restore.
The humble seek your face
And find you full of grace.
For You alone are Lord.

Lord, hold me in Your arms.
Fill me with Your Spirit.
Take away the things that take my heart away
From loving You.

Just hold me in Your arms.
Fill me with Your Spirit.
Let me feel Your love,
Let me hear Your voice
As I worship You.

Let me feel Your love,
Let me hear Your voice
As I worship You.

Let me feel Your love,
Let me hear Your voice
As I worship You.

“Isn’t It a Wonderful Thing?”

Written by James Ryle and Phil Keaggy

Isn’t it a wonderful thing?
Don’t it make you want to sing?
To feel the presence of the Lord,
And see the power of His word,

When His kingdom comes
And His will is done —
Oh, isn’t it a wonderful thing!

Isn’t it a wonderful thing?
That Jesus Christ the King
Would manifest His love today
Simply because we pray

And call upon His name,
To praise Him without shame –
Oh, isn’t it a wonderful thing!

You and I could search and try to find the greatest treasure
And then believe we had everything.
But there is so much more to Jesus than we can measure,
There’s wealth beyond compare within His name!

Isn’t it a wonderful thing?
Don’t it make you want to sing?
To feel the presence of the Lord,
And see the power of His word,

When His kingdom comes
And His will is done —
Oh, isn’t it a wonderful thing!

Isn’t it a wonderful thing? That Jesus Christ the King
Would manifest His love today Simply because we pray
And call upon His name, To praise Him without shame –

Oh, isn’t it a wonderful thing!
Oh, isn’t it a wonderful thing!
Oh, isn’t it a wonderful thing!

“With You”

Written by James Ryle

If I could close my eyes and be
anywhere I’d want to be
Here is where I’d always be —
With You.

You have given life to me.
Your love has set my spirit free.
Lord, it’s such a joy to be –
With You.

I will ever stay awhile – with You.
Here, beneath Your loving smile – with You.

Here is where I’ll always stay
Singing songs of love and praise
Lord I long to be always
With You.

Nothing else will do.
Lord, all I want is You.
Jesus, You’re my dream come true…
And that is why; yes, that is why –

If I could close my eyes and be
anywhere I’d want to be
Here is where I’d always be –
With You.

You have given life to me.
Your love has set my spirit free.
Lord, it’s such a joy to be –
With You.

I will ever stay awhile – with You.
Here, beneath Your loving smile – with You.

Here is where I’ll always stay
Singing songs of love and praise
Lord I long to be always
With You.

“One Thing”

Written by James Ryle

One thing have I desired of the Lord
That one thing will I seek for.
That I may dwell in the house of the Lord
All the days of my life
To behold the beauty of the Lord
And to inquire in His Holy Temple.

O send out Thy Light and Thy truth.
Let them lead me, let them bring me
Unto Thy Holy Hill
And to Thy tabernacle O Lord.

I will bow down before You
Love, and always adore You.
I will explore Your ways,
and do Thy Will!

For You alone are God most Holy,
Helping me, and that right early!
You give me peace
beside the waters still.

One thing have I desired of the Lord
That one thing will I seek for.
That I may dwell in the house of the Lord
All the days of my life
To behold the beauty of the Lord
And to inquire in His Holy Temple.

One thing have I desired of the Lord
That one thing will I seek for.
That I may dwell in the house of the Lord
All the days of my life
To behold the beauty of the Lord
And to inquire in His Holy Temple.

To behold the beauty of the Lord
And to inquire in His Holy Temple.
