The King of Glory

“He that descended is the same also that ascended up far above all heavens, that he might fill all things.” (Ephesians 4:10 KJV)

Picking up where we left off in Psalm 24, we are faced with the question of the Ages. “Who may ascend into the hill of the Lord? Or who may stand in His holy place?”(Psa.24:3).

Is there anybody who can enter Heaven for us, and make peace on our behalf with the offended God?

Yes, there is. The Noble Man has arrived. He is Jesus, the Lord of Heaven and Earth!

Jesus, who alone has clean hands and a pure heart; Who alone has not lifted up his soul to an idol, nor sworn deceitfully. And He alone has received the blessing from the Lord, and righteousness from the God of His salvation (see Psa.24:4,5). And this is what He now gives to each one of us who call upon His Name.

King of GloryOh, what it must’ve been like on that Day when He ascended on high in victory. He opened the prison doors of Death and Hell and led in His triumphant parade all those who had died in faith before He had come. As this happy and mighty throng approached the Gates of Heaven, they found them closed and fortified. And the angelic hosts of Heaven were armed and standing ready for War.

Someone in the crowd outside the gates cried out, “Lift up your heads, O ye gates, that The King of Glory may come in!”

But the Hosts of Heaven are not so eager to comply. Thus, they call back, “Who is this King of Glory?”

They had good reason to ask the question. For the last thing they had witnessed from those exalted ramparts was the murder of the Son of God. All went black when a darkness covered the earth, and the broken voice of the Child cried out, “My God, My God; why hast Thou forsaken Me?”

The angelic Hosts knew nothing yet of the final outcome of that Battle. They only knew that Christ had been slain, and that The Serpent, who from the beginning wanted God’s Throne for himself, had stood in gleeful triumph over the grave.

Now a clamoring crowd had amassed outside the Eternal Gates seeking entrance to Heaven’s empire. Nothing would give the Serpent greater pleasure than to be called “The King of Glory.” Maybe this was him at the Door. And so the Hosts asked, “Who is this King of Glory?”

And the answer comes without hesitation, “The LORD strong and mighty, The LORD mighty in battle. Lift up your heads, O you gates! Lift up, you everlasting doors! And the King of Glory shall come in!”

And then once more, almost in disbelief, the Hosts ask yet again, “Who is this King of glory?”

And the happy throng fire back their joyous answer – “ The LORD of hosts, He  is  the King of glory!” (Psalm 24:10 NKJV). Now open those Gates!!

And open them they did! Oh, Hallelujah! Jesus reigns!! The Child is victorious in His battle, and has conquered sin, death, and The Serpent!

The Gates of Heaven opened and Christ entered triumphant! He was received by His Father and given a name that is above every name; that at His name every knee should bow, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord — to the glory of God the Father.

He was crowned Lord of All, and given a Coronation Gift — The Holy Spirit — Whom He has now poured forth from Heaven upon the Earth, to fill His followers with power from on High to finish the work He had started on the Earth.

Go tell it on the mountain!!
